Anne Timpany, Entrepreneur & Non-Executive Director
Anne is a multi award-winning Entrepreneur, UK Women In Construction Ambassador, UK’s top 2020 female entrepreneurs (F:Entrepreneur), NZTE UK Advisor and Kea World Class New Zealander. Originally from Timaru, Anne has recently returned from 16 years living and working in the UK where she co-founded and ran a multi-million pound plumbing and heating firm in London.
Now she is back home Anne has been appointed to the board as a non-executive Director for Tradify, a tradie job management technology company. She is a business advisor for NZTE for NZ businesses in the UK and a regular columnist and speaker. She has featured on BBC Breakfast and contributed articles for the Daily Mail as well as many other media publications.
Anne will offer insight into her business success and challenges faced, particularly in the male dominated environment of construction. You will hear how Anne came to be involved in the development of some of the most famous buildings in the London landscape including Buckingham Palace. Anne credits a lot of her success to networking and has been described as a ‘networking guru’. Now she is back in NZ Anne will share her plans and how she will continue to push the boundaries.
Originally hailing from Timaru she studied at Otago and Victoria Universities completing a BA Hons before moving overseas. Anne travelled to the UK for an OE intending to be there for 6 months, but ended up there for 16 years. During that time Anne co-founded and ran a plumbing and heating firm operating in London which she successfully grew to a multi-million pound turnover. All the while raising a busy family of three young boys. In 2020 she decided to move back to her homeland.
Working for 11 years as an entrepreneur, company Director and member of the Board of her firm has given her deep insights into a range of topics including leadership, profit and loss responsibility, governance knowledge and board experience. During her career in the UK Anne built a reputation for innovative strategic thinking, working with integrity, generating new growth opportunities and excelling at leadership and communication.
In recognition of her achievements in business in the UK, Anne has received several awards including the prestigious National NatWest Everywoman Award in 2017. In 2018 she was runner-up in the 2018 Great British Entrepreneur Awards. Recently Anne was recognised as one of the UK’s top 2020 female entrepreneurs (F:Entrepreneur). She is a Freeman of the City of London and was a Liveryman in the Worshipful Company of Plumbers, one of London’s oldest liveries.
Anne, Raff and their boys have recently relocated to Wanaka New Zealand. The family had decided to move to Anne’s home country ahead of their boy’s secondary school years, with the family of 5 arriving late February 2020, and as luck would have it, just ahead of lockdown.
