Wanaka Women in Business Christmas Lunch 2020

 

Our annual Wanaka Women in Business Christmas Lunch just goes from strength to strength each year and is always a sell-out. We have taken onboard all the feedback from last year and have incorporated it into a new format and new, larger venue to accommodate the expanding demand for this event.
 
We are excited to host the 2020 Wanaka Women in Business event at Corbridge Woolshed with the theme of ‘Garden Party’ and with the support of our new naming sponsor, Scope Media.
 
We will be delighted by amazing food catered by Rachelle and her team from The Platter Share, followed by dessert provided by Pembroke Patisserie and we’ll kickstart festivities with welcome bubbles from the team at Akarua Wines.
 
We are lucky to have two amazing speakers again this year. First up is Laura Douglas of Real Country who will share her career story, focusing on the resilience and skills built during that time and especially in a Covid-19 world. You may have seen her on last Sunday’s Country Calendar? If not check her episode out here.
 
Our second speaker is known to many of us. Bridget Legnavsky is the GM of Cardrona Alpine Resort and Treble Cone, as well as being a member of the Ignite Wanaka board, and knows more than most of us how tough it can be to lead a team and business to success in the face of closing borders and changing alert levels. Bridget will share her learnings from 2020 and what she’s learnt about being a woman in business in the year that will be forever known as ‘The covid year’.

A silent auction and $2 raffle will be held on the day with all funds raised being split between the speakers’ two preferred charities.

Menu:

  • Akarua Bubbles on arrival. Akarua wine, b.effect cider and soft drinks available after. Cash bar.
  • Lunch by The Platter Share -
    • Mains of whisky and apricot glazed Christmas ham, Stewart Island smoked salmon with lemon and herb crème & coriander, lime and tomato party jackfruit.
    • Served with a selection of gourmet salads and seasonal vegetables.
  • Dessert platter courtesy of Pembroke Patisserie.

 
Gluten free and vegan dietaries will be catered for automatically, so no need to specify these dietaries when booking.

About Laura Douglas

Laura Douglas, owner of Real Country and Executive Director of The Fairlight Foundation, is a walking example of resilience, determination and choosing to follow what you are passionate about.  Giving up a professional career in Auckland, Laura made the brave decision in 2016 to relocate back home to Southland and establish an agritourism business which was based on her love of the land, animals and educating people. 

Her business, Real Country, quickly became a must-do for visitors with tourist bus contracts booked every week to experience southern hospitality. Unfortunately, Laura was again forced to be brave when her business took a sudden ‘nose-dive’ because of COVID-19. 

Laura hopes that sharing her story might inspire others to never give up and understand why it is important to focus on your passion and develop your skill sets to respond to all life's challenges.
