Thought Leadership Breakfast - Crystal Ball Gazing

Crystal Ball Gazing - The economic outlook for the Upper Clutha in 2022

What are the international and national economic trends that you should be aware of in 2022 and how might these impact your business?  What can be done locally to tackle the challenges and grab the opportunities that the new year could bring?

Join us for the first Ignite Wanaka Thought Leadership Breakfast of 2022 and hear from two local leaders discussing the future of our local economy and setting the scene for the year ahead.

First up, we'll hear from Queenstown based economist Benje Patterson, who will give his thoughts on the year ahead and what information you should be following to ensure you make the most of 2022.

Next, QLDC Economic Development Manager Peter Harris will talk about the importance of diversifying our local economy and what's happening locally to encourage new ways to make an income in Wanaka.

About Peter Harris:

Peter has been a farmer, teacher, entrepreneur, and 4 years ago become Queenstown Lakes first Economic Development Manager.  He has been instrumental in evolving The Cube into Startup Queenstown Lakes, creating a local Film Office alongside Film Otago Southland, and is now supporting a range of projects to help reduce the districts reliance on tourism.  He is also part of the QLDC/Lake Wanaka Tourism/Destination Queenstown collective that has been developing the Destination Management Plan and is on the board of Sustainable Queenstown.  He is a keen mountain biker, and skier.

About Benje Patterson:

Benje Patterson is a leading regional economist and his views frequently appear in the media. Benje currently works as an independent consultant, but previously managed the regional economic division of leading Wellington consultancy Infometrics. Over the past couple of years, he has increasingly begun to work on projects related to economic and labour market development across Otago. He is a proud Arrowtown resident and sits on the board of the Arrowtown Promotion and Business Association. Outside of work, Benje is kept on his toes by his three pre-schoolers and an energetic kelpie. He is a keen ultra-runner and entered to compete in the inaugural The Wild 100 miler through the Mahu Whenua area between Arrowtown and Wanaka.
